MacMillan is a textbook publisher. They ask 52 teachers to test a quiz platform for use with one of their books. Each teacher then rates the quiz platform as either "will use" or "won't use". Based on previous work with focus groups MacMillan believes that the probability of getting a "will use" response from an individual is .73. What is the probability of getting more than 40 teachers to respond with "will use"?
Answer to four decimal places.
Solution :
Given that,
Using binomial distribution,
= n * p = 52 * 0.73 = 37.96
= n * p * q = 5 * 0.73 * 0.37 = 3.20144
Using continuity correction ,
P(x > 40.5) = 1 - P(x < 40.5)
= 1 - P((x - ) / < (40.5 - 37.96) / 3.20144)
= 1 - P(z < 0.79)
= 1 - 0.7852
= 0.2148
Probability = 0.2148
