Reduction of standard error in an experiment is a
necessity. How can standard error
be
Reduced in an experiment?
We know, that in an experiment, the standard error is actually given by the formula
Now, here sigma is the population standard deviation and n is the sample size.
We note that, Standard error is inversely proportional to the square root of sample size.
So, if we increase the sample size n, the standard error is bound to decrease.
WE CAN REDUCE THE STANDARD ERROR OF AN EXPERIMENT BY INCREASING THE SAMPLE SIZE OF THE EXPERIMENT.
Now, sometimes it might be expensive to enter more and more samples; some studies could be very costly.
In those cases, in stead of increasing the sample sizes, we usually reduce the in-system variability of the experiment; we try to cut off the measurement errors as much as possible, by choosing higher reliability measures.
In this process, our main aim is to reduce the variation in the population.
