Hypothesis Testing (Two samples – means) 7. After four weeks in the program, Weight Watchers wants to know if there is a difference between the weight loss in men as opposed to the weight loss in women. After four weeks, a sample of 40 men revealed a mean weight loss of 17.6 pounds while a sample of 55 women revealed a mean weight loss of 13.8 pounds. The standard deviation of weight loss in men and women is 5.8 pounds and 4.0 pounds respectively. At the 0.01 significance level, in the first four weeks, is there a difference between the weight loss in men as opposed to the weight loss in women? Use the five step process!

Round any numerical answers to 3 decimal places. 1.) A weight loss study measures each participant’s weight before the study and then 12 weeks into the study. A sample of 31 participants enrolled in the study and the mean difference in their weights (computed before – after) was found to be 4.1 pounds with a standard deviation of 3.2 pounds. In Minitab Express, conduct a paired means t-test to determine if there is evidence that the participants on average lost...

Mean BMI was assessed for each group at the end of the 4 weeks....

T F 1. A p-value of .008 in hypothesis testing means there is only a .8% chance we could get such sample statistics from the population if the null hypothesis is as stated. Such an event is considered unlikely and we would reject the null hypothesis. T F 2. As a general rule in hypothesis testing, it is always safer to set up your alternate hypothesis with a greater-than or less-than orientation. _____3. If the level of significance is .02...

For each test give the null and alternative hypothesis, p-value, and conclusion as it relates to the claim. In a random sample of 360 women, 65% favored stricter gun control laws. In a random sample of 220 men, 60% favored stricter gun control laws. Test the claim that the proportion of women favoring...
