For the incidence rate ratio,we need to determine person's time ,which is nothing but the sum of the times of follow up for each participant in that treatment group.

Person's time:

number of participants * average length of follow-up

for new medication = 8277*4.3 = 35591.1

for supplements = 9231*4.1 = 37847.1

incidence rate for new medication = no.of falls / person's time 1

= 2002 / 35591.1 = 0.05625

incidence rate for supplements = no. of falls / person's time 2

= 3987/ 37847.1 = 0.10534

INCIDENCE RATE RATIO = 0.05625 / 0.10534 = 0.53396

since IRR < 1, which implies relative risk is lower by the treatment of new medication when compares with treatment by vitamin supplements.
