Suppose in any class of a college we want to test average weight of student is grater than 50 Kg.

Then we take sample of students, find it's mean and variance. And based on this sample information we take hypothetical test.

And conclude the overall class or (in statistical language it is population).

So here we take claim as a alternative hypothesis.

That's, null hypothesis is average weight of students is less than or equal to 50Kg.

Against ,

Alternative hypothesis is average weight of students is greater than

50Kg.
