The correlation coefficient is the measure of the extent of the linear relationship between two variables say X and Y.

The correlation coefficient r lies in the range -1 r 1

If r = 0 or nearly zero , then we can say that there is no linear relationship between X and Y.

But this does not mean that there is no any relationship between X and Y .

It can possible that there may be non linear relation between X and Y or there may be curvi linear relation between X and Y.
