Pick any two variables that you feel may be related and estimate what you think the strength of the correlation coefficient would be for those two variables. In your response, estimate the value of r. For example, specify a strong (.7 to .9), medium (.4 to .6), or low (0 to .3) value for r. The value of the coefficient can be positive or negative. For example, consider an increase in police patrols in a neighborhood and the number of burglaries that occur in that neighborhood. I would say that would be a strong inverse relationship with an r-value of -0.8; as one (patrols) increases, the other (burglary rate) goes down. Describe the factors that you think would contribute to why the variables would have the relationship that you estimate it to be.

Think about a group of people for a moment, then describe a correlation, (between two variables of your choice) among them. Is the correlation strong? What would you guess to be the r-value, the linear correlation coefficient?

Think of a problem dealing with two possibly related variables (Y and X) that you may be interested in. Share your problem and discuss why a regression analysis could be appropriate for this problem. Specifically, what statistical questions are you asking? Why would you want to predict the value of Y? What if you wanted to predict a value of Y that’s beyond the highest value of X (for example if X is time and you want to forecast Y...

Think of two variables, they could be from everyday life, that you feel would be strongly correlated, either positively or negatively. Describe why you would care about those two variables being correlated, and if you were to find a linear equation (best fit line) for them, what would you use it for. If you need to do some research online to find examples to post, that would be encouraged.

1. Pick a minimum of 20 observations on any subject. This will include a dependent variable plus two independent variables that you may think are either negatively or positively correlated with the dependent variable. List the observed data (include the source). Then do the following: a. State before doing any calculations whether you think they are positively or negatively correlated. What is your rationale? Example: I test for a correlation between the quantity of coffee that people buy (Y) with...
