What do you think "central tendency" means?
Do you think there is more than one way to measure it? Why?
Ans:
Central tendency is the value that represent the center of the data distribution.
There are three ways to measure the central tendency i.e. mean, median and mode.
Central tendency is the tendency for the values of a random variable to cluster round its mean, mode, or median.
We use mean to measure central tendency when data has symmetrical distribution.
We use median to measure central tendency when data has skewed distribution. We use median for skewed data,as extreme values or outliers strongly affect the mean value,as it is the average of all values. As median is the middle value,it is not affected by the extreme values or outliers.
We use mode to measure central tendency when data is nominal.
