Social researchers suggested that American children spend more time playing games at home than they spend playing games at a friends house. They randomly selected 100 American children and asked each child to record, over the course of one month, the number of hours they spent playing games at home and the number of hours they spent playing games at a friends house.

In the given scenario we have a two dependent samples. One sample consists of number of hours spent playing at home by 100 American children and another sample consists of number of hours spent playing at friend's house by the same 100 students. Since, the same 100 children are involved in both samples, therefore these two samples are dependent samples.

Now researcher suggested that American children spend more time playing games at home than they spend playing games at a friends house.

To test the hypothesis the most appropriate test is the paired sample t-test. In this test we compare the means of two dependent populations. For the given hypothesis we can use paired t-test to test whether the mean number of hours spent playing at house by American children is greater than mean number of hours spent playing at friend's house by the the American children or not.
