Determine whether or not the distribution is a discrete probability distribution and select the reason why or why not.

x 7 8 10
P(X=x) 3/4 −1/2 3/4

Homework Answers

Answer #1

We know that

The distribution is discrete probability distribution when

1) The probability of each value of the discrete variable random is between 0 and 1.

I. e 0 p(x)   1

2) the sum all probabilities is 1.

In that example we can see that the one of probability is (-1/2).

So it is not in range 0 to 1.

Therefore this distribution is not discrete probability distribution.
