a) We will use a paired samples t-test to test the difference in population means before and after the cognitive behavior treatment.

b) The design of the study is as such that participants are randomly selected who are provided with cognitive behavior therapy. The depression assessment scores will be measured before the therapy and after a period of time and we will test the difference in means of the scores using an paired samples t-test.

c) The hypothesis will be as follows:

Ho: u_d = 0
Ha: u_d < 0

ud is the difference of scores before and after the period.

This is a directional hypothesis.

d) The test will be one-tailed

e) Null Hypothesis: There is no effect of cognitive behavior therapy on young people diagnosed with depression.
Alternate Hypothesis: There is a significant effect of cognitive behavior therapy on young people diagnosed with depression.
