The number of students who dropped out of the Perkins School District for the first ten (10) months of 2019 were as follows: 26, 31, 24, 36, 29, 24, 27, 18, 28, 8;33 Determine the following: a. Range b. Mean c. Median d. Mode e. Variance f. Standard Deviation

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a)

Range = Highest value - lowest value = 36 - 8 = 28

b)

Mean = X /n = 284 / 11 = 25.82

c)

Write data in ascending order

8, 18, 24, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 33, 36

median = ( n + 1) / 2 th observation

= (11 +1) / 2

= 6 th observation

= 27

d)

Mode = Data with most repetitions

= 24 (Appeared twice)

e)

Variance = ( X2 - n * mean2 ) / n -1

= ( 7916 - 11 * 25.822 ) / 10

= 58.36

f)

Standard deviation = sqrt ( variance)

= sqrt ( 58.36 )

= 7.64

In a school district, all sixth grade students take the same standardized test. The superintendant of the school district takes a random sample of 26 scores from all of the students who took the test. She sees that the mean score is 121 with a standard deviation of 14.3688. The superintendant wants to know if the standard deviation has changed this year. Previously, the population standard deviation was 24. Is there evidence that the standard deviation of test scores has...

Suppose you draw a random sample of 8 first year masters students and find that their ages are 24, 29, 31, 29, 28, 28, 26, 32, respectively; and you draw a random sample of 6 second year masters students and find their ages are 33, 31, 26, 27, 28, and 30, respectively. Assume age is normally distributed in both populations with equal variance. Construct 95% confidence interval for the difference in mean ages of first and second year students.
