SCENARIO:
The new restaurant owner wants to know if the type of music played in the restaurant will increase the amount of money customers spend on a meal. Each week for a month a different type of music is played in the restaurant, this goes on for 3 months. The first week of the month is jazz music, the second week is classical music, the third week is 80’s pop music and the fourth week of the month classic rock & roll music is played. The amount of money spent on a meal by customers is recorded.
a. Independent variable = Type of music played.
b. Dependent variable = Amount of money customers spend on a meal.
c. Alternative hypothesis will be one tailed as the restaurant owner wants to know if type of music will increase the amount of money customers spend on meal. i.e. the claim is the Average spend will be higher. hence right tailed test.
d. Null hypothesis states that the amount of money spend by a customer will not be affected by type of music played.
e. Alternative hypothesis states that the amount of money spend by a customer will increase base on the type of music played.
