What is the definition of Type I error? When does it occur? How is it related with level of significance? Explain.

Answer #1

Answer)

Type 1 error means rejection of true null hypothesis

For example

Null hypothesis is population mean is = 20

Alternate hypothesis is mean is greater than 20

So we will commit type 1 error if we will conclude that population mean is greater than 20, even if population mean is 20

So, it occurs when we reject the true null hypothesis

We reject the null hypothesis when p-value is less than the given significance level

So, probability of type 1 error is significance level itself
