a sample data set X has 502.elements.the first element is equal to 10.the second element is equal to 20.all other elements are equal to 15.the median of X is

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:
Given in the question
In a data set X has 502 Elements, In which First Element is 10, Second is 20 and other elements are 15, so frequency distribution table can be written as
Here n =502

Element

Frequency

10

1

15

500

20

1

Total

502

Median of data set can be calculated as
Median = (n+1)/2 = (502+1)/2 = 503/2 = 251.5th value
So after sorted data from smallest to largest Elements we found
251th value is 15 and 252 th value is 15
So Median = (15+15)/2 = 15
the median of X is 15.

You want to estimate E[x] and you have two datasets. In the first data set, there are 10 observations. In the second data set there are 100 observations, but these observations involve measurement errors. That is, X tilda = X + e, where e is a classical measurement error. You can only use one dataset, and you want to have a precise estimate in the sense of having a low variance. A) You should always use the first data set...
