Regression analysis have some assumption regarding data.

Some main assumption are ,

  • Linear relationship
  • Multivariate normality
  • No or little multicollinearity
  • No auto-correlation
  • Homoscedasticity

If you try to fit regression on ordinary data many assumption regarding data will get violated, and results you get from regression will not be meaningful or trustworthy.

The error model underlying a linear regression analysis includes the assumptions of fixed-x, Normality, equal spread, and independent errors. Using ordinal data will violat such assumption.
