find a formula for the probability that among a set of n people, at least two have their birthdays in the same month of the year (assuming the months are equally likely for birthdays

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given that the months are equally likely for birthdays, probability that one person will have his birthday in a particular month is 1/12. There are two cases.
case 1: n is less than or equal to 12.
Probability that at least two have their birthdays in the same month of the year = 1 - Probability that all of them have birthdays in different months

case 2: when n is more than 12:
In this case probability that at least two have their birthdays in the same month = 1. As there are only 12 months and there are more than 12 persons.
