This week, we cover the central tendency, which includes mean, median and mode

As a medical facilitator, you are asked to analyze data from the past years patient visits. As you analyze, you look at the median wait time before seen by a physician. Would the median be the best representation of the wait time, please explain?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Median might not be the best representation for the wait time before seen by a physician for the patients.

Reason : median is preferred where the order matters more than quantity. For example, in this if the objective was to know if any patient waited more or less than another then median would have been preferred.

Mean could be the best representation of wait time before seen by a physician for the patients.

Since, the wait time before seen by a physician for the patients is a quantitative value and the amount of time matters to the researcher more than the whether some patient get less time than another or more.

hence, researcher should prefer mean to obtain the best representation of the data.
