Assume the amount of inventory of raw material 1 can be approximated to a normal distribution which a mean 47lb and standard deviation 14lb. What is the probability that a random sample of 100 inventory readings show a sample mean greater than 44lb?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution :

Given that,

mean = = 47

standard deviation = = 14

n = 10

= 47

= / n = 14 100 = 1.4

P ( > 44 )

= 1 - P ( < 44 )

= 1 - P ( - /) < (44- 47 /1.4 )

= 1 - P( z < - 3 / 1.4 )

= 1 - P ( z < - 2.14 )

Using z table

= 1 - 0.0162

= 0.9838

Probability = 0.9838
