Is binomial distribution a statistical method (test statistic)? I'm filling out a chart on appropriate statistical and graphical methodologies for bivariate analyses and looking at the Explanatory Variable being categorical and the Response variable being categorical. I know that Chi-squared test and the Fisher's Exact test are two, but didn't know if the binomial is an actual statistical method or if it's just to find proportions.

Answer #1

Yes, it is a statistical method.

The binomial test of significance is a kind of probability test that is based on various rules of probability. It is used to examine the distribution of a single dichotomous variable in the case of small samples. It involves the testing of the difference between a sample proportion and a given proportion.

But it not for the use in the case in which explanatory variable is categorical and the response variable is categorical. It is to be used in the case of discreet distrbutions.
