A researcher is trying to examine if thr size of hospital (with values of small, medium, and large) differ by hospital locations (with values of rural vs. urban). The results of the chi-square statisticsl analysis showed p value is less than 0.0001. What does this mean? What conclusion would you make?

Solution

Here the  researcher is trying to examine if the size of hospital (with values of small, medium, and large) differ by hospital locations (with values of rural vs. urban) that means he wants check is there any association hospital location and the size of hospital.

So the Null hypothesis will be

Ho : There is no association between hospital location and the size of hospital.

And alternative hypothesis will be

H1 : There is association between hospital location and the size of hospital.

so we have given that  p value is less than 0.0001 that means we should reject the null hypothesis and conclude that There is association between hospital location and the size of hospital.

OR

hospital location and the size of hospital are dependent.
