Which score has a higher relative position, a score of 650 on a test for which the mean is 500 and the standard deviation is 100, or a score of 27 on a test for which the mean is 18 and the standard deviation is 6?

Answer #1

For score 650 We have :

Mean = 500 and standard deviation = 100

So for score 650 we get -

Coefficient of variation = ( / ) * 100 = (100 / 500) * 100 = 20%

For score 27 We have :

Mean = 18 and standard deviation = 6

So for score 27 we get -

Coefficient of variation = ( / ) * 100 = ( 6 / 18) * 100 = 33.33%

Here Coefficient of variation for score 650 is less than score 27 hence we can say that-

650 score has a higher relative position.

Hope this will help you. Thank you :)
