Answer #1

Solution:

Given that,

15,22,28,32,44,49

a )The mean of sample is

x/n =  ( 15+22+28+32+44+49/ 6)

= 31.67

The sample mean is 31.67

Sample standard deviation is s

s = 1/(n-1)(x - )2

=  1/5 (15 - 31.67 )2+ (22 - 31.67 )2+ (28 - 31.67 )2+ (32- 31.67 )2 +( 44 -31.67)2+( 49 -31.67)2

= 167.46666666667

=12.94

The sample standard deviation is 12.94

When we calculated the Variance (on the way to Standard Deviation) we computed the difference between what we saw in each case (or in each observation), and the Expected value for all of the observations. Then, we squared those differences before weighting this element by the probability of actually seeing that observation or scenario. So, what is the effect (or are the effects) of squaring that value?
