Assume that 28% of randomly selected adults have high cholesterol (with a level of at least 240mg/dl. or are taking medicine to reduce cholesterol). Based on results from the National Center for Health Statistics. Assume that a group of five adults is randomly selected. If the group of five adults includes exactly 1 with high cholesterol, is that value of 1 significantly low?
In the population, we have 28% of randomly selected adults having high cholesterol.
When we take a sample of 5 adults, exactly one has high cholesterol so the probability is 1/5 = 20%,
We were expecting the count to be approximate:-
n * p =5 * 0.28 = 1.4 ~ 1 adult to have high cholesterol.
So, no the count of 1 is not significantly low. It seems to be in line with our expectations.
