  1. Over the past year, 22% of the players at Pine Creek were women. In an effort to increase the proportion of women players, Pine Creek implemented a special promotion design to attract women golfers. The manager now wants to determine if the proportion of women players has increased.

A random sample of 400 players were selected and 100 of the players were women.

Given that, in the past year there are 22% women players. Which means that out of hundred players 22 are women. Again we take a random sample of 400 players after implementing a special promotion design. And calculate how many women are there. And it is found that the number of women is 100. Now we are going to calculate the sample proportion. And is given by

So the sample proportion is 25%. And here we are considering the sampling is Simple Random Sampling (SRS). In SRS the sample proportion is an unbiased estimate for population proportion. So we can say that 25% is the population percentage. So there is an increase of 3% than the previous year.Hence we can say that the proportion of women players are increased.
