regression or correlation analysis if determining the relationship between the time it took to hold a breath and the change in breathing rate as a result of breath holding after a maximal inhale?
What would be the independent variable if regression? Dependent variable?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Dependent variable :Change in breathing rate

Independent varaiable: Breath hold time after maximum inhale

General rules of regression:

In regression Dependent variable is Y and it should be continuous.

Independent variable can be both categorical or continuous but in numerical.

Here dependent variable is unknown which is change in breathrate. So using independent variable we try to predict dependent variable.

Independent variable values can be collected using experiments like take random persons and measure breath hold time of each person. Since we have already a train set we can predict with that data.

Breath hold time increases there might be increase or decrease in breathing rate

I am trying to put together a research determining the relationship between age and exercise time and if there is a significant difference in gender and exercise times. I would like to determine the dependent variable normality using SPSS. Gender is always independent, but when I'm trying to assess the normality for the age and exercise times. Exercise will always be dependent, but will in this case is age also dependent or independent? How would I determine this on SPSS?

A regression analysis is a statistical assessment of the association between two variables, one of which is dependent and the other, independent. The dependent variable is y and the independent variable is x. Regression analysis is used to find the relationships between these variables. Variables within a regression analysis can be negatively correlated or positively correlated. A situation in which one could model a regression analysis could be the association of hours studied and a grade on a test. The...

Regression ____ (b values) indicate how much influence each independent variable has on the dependent variable. Regression analysis serves two main purposes: to define the relationship between variables and to ____ values of the dependent variable using what we know about the existing correlation between the variables. The coefficient of multiple determination, R^2, is interpreted as the percentage of ____ in the dependent variable that is explained by the independent variable.
