Two compartments within a cell each contain 25 copies of a photoreactive enzyme. The enzyme may exists in the ground state until struck by light, where its energy is increased to e=3. One compartment (A) has 6 copies of the enzyme in the excited state while compartment B has 2 in the excited state. If the two compartments are in contact with each other, what is the total multiplicity?

Photo reactive enzymes ,when they absorb light causing electrons to become excited and jump into the orbit farther from the atomic nucleus . These electrons are picked up by electron acceptor, the movement of electron is downhill ,in terms of an oxidation reduction or redox potential scale.The electrons are not used up as they pass through the chain . When electrons loose energy every time they are received and released by an electron acceptor . When these come to ground state, they either move back to their original place..

As per the question, both compartments are connected the electrons may reach the electron acceptor of the same compartment or may shift from A to B or vice versa.. The total multiplicity is 8 enzymes.all will work in the same way. and 8 pathways will be working.
