Please state a research scenario that you would analyze with an Independent-samples t-test. Make sure to state your independent variable and dependent variable.

Answer #1

Independent-samples t-test compares the population means between two independent groups on the same continuous (termed dependent) variable.

For example, suppose a clinician wants to compare two competing treatments, A and B with respect to reducing weight. Two groups of patients are selected, one group is assigned A and the other B and their weights are recorded. Then under normality assumption independent t test is appropriate to compare the effectiveness of treatments. Here "weight" is the dependent variable and  the independent variable would be "Treatment", which has two varieties "Treatment A " and "Treatment B".
