Decide first whether data are quantitative or qualitative. Unless mentioned otherwise, no assumption has been seriously violated, and therefore the appropriate test should be selected from among t , F , or χ2 tests. Specify the precise form of the test. For example, specify that the t test is for two population means with related samples, or that the χ2 test is for two variables, or that the F test is for repeated measures.

A social scientist wishes to determine whether there is a relationship between the attractiveness scores (on a 100-point scale) assigned to college students by a panel of peers and their scores on a paper-and-pencil test of anxiety.

Answer #1

Here the data is quantitative because in this case the numerical value means something and can be measured for example in this case the attractive score and their scores of paper and pencil test gives us information of how attractive a student is according to their peers and how much anxiety the student have respectively.

And the score can be numerically measured and compared to see which student is more attractive or have more anxiety.

So the data is quantitative

For this case it is best to use chi square (x2) test of independence which compare the variables (in this case the variables are attractive score and pen and paper score) to see if the variables are related or not.
