For example, number of students in a class

Now, number of students in a class can be 59,60 etc

They cannot be 59.7557 or 60.12344

While

Continuous variable can take any value in the interval

For example height

Height can be 5.9746899 feet or 6.123344 feet etc

When we divide the population into already existing groups and then randomly select the samples from those groups then this type of sampling is called cluster sampling

So sampling used here is cluster
