Even though ANOVA is comparing means of different groups, we use the F to test our hypotheses. So why do we do this?

Answer #1

Answer:-

From the above information

In ANOVA when we comparing means of different groups , we use F test ,our hypothesis we test

Ho:Groups means are equal . V/s. H1:- at least one group means are different.

Test statistic is , F =mean squares of given groups/ mean square due to error

In different formats , F = explained variation/ unexplained variation

Hence , in the case of Anova we used to test differences Among two or more independent means , When there are only two means to compare we use t or f test but when we want to compare two or more than two then we use ANOVA technique.

So we do F test in ANOVA because equality of variance is used to test , with the help of F we talk about variation among the group

This week we add a new PDF to our tool box - the F-statistic. A major use of this PDF is the comparison of variances, but it is also the test statistic of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Even though ANOVA is comparing means of different groups, we use the F to test our hypotheses. So why do we do this?

Psychology Statistics You and a fellow student are comparing means for treatment and control groups, mT=7.56 and mC=4.78. You use a t-test, and get a statistic of t(45)=2.87, d=.856. Your colleague uses ANOVA, yielding an F statistic of F(1, 45)=8.27. It turns out that you accidentally switched which was group 1 and group 2, and your group means should have been mT=4.78 and mC=7.56. Does your t-statistic change? Does the F-statistic change? Does Cohen’s d change? Why or why not?
