CHAPTER NINE: One-Population Hypothesis Testing:

Perform the five-step hypothesis testing approach for the following problem below, including an appropriate diagram as illustrated in class.

The mean time using the present technology that Donald Co. uses to make widgets takes 12 minutes a widget.  Donald Co. is experimenting with a new method, and conducted a sample by making 30 widgets with the new method.  The sample using the new method obtained a mean of 11.2 minutes per widget, with a sample standard deviation of 3.8 minutes.  At the 0.01 significance level, can we conclude that the mean time using the new method is less than 12 minutes?

Please include an appropriate diagram as well as the 5 steps.

Question 3: Hypothesis Testing - One-Sided Test Boston Co. Cereal, Inc., has asked you to study the variability of the weights of cereal bags produced in their plant located in rural Indonesia. The package weights are known to be normally distributed with the variance of 50. Using a random sample of n=71, you find that the sample mean weight is 40. The marketing vice president claims that there is a very small chance that the population means weight is less...

Hypothesis testing is the basis of inferential statistics. Statisticians are always coming up with new tests and testing new characteristics of population parameters. One of the simplest tests that currently exist is the one-sample test for means. A random sample is drawn. If the population variance is known, then we use the Z test; if the population variance is unknown, we use the T test. In addition, there are some additional assumptions that can be made. For example, if a...

1.The sample mean is an unbiased estimator for the population mean. This means: The sample mean always equals the population mean. The average sample mean, over all possible samples, equals the population mean. The sample mean will only vary a little from the population mean. The sample mean has a normal distribution. 2.Which of the following statements is CORRECTabout the sampling distribution of the sample mean: The standard error of the sample mean will decrease as the sample size increases....
