If a certain middle hits the target with the probability of 30% find the number of missiles which should be fired so that prob of hitting the target is 80%?

I have these to problems for HW and having some difficulties trying to solve for them how would I go about solving the problems?

Answer #1

P(hitting target) = 0.3

P(not hitting) = 1 - 0.3 = 0.7

Consider n missiles. P(at least one of the n missiles hitting) = 1 - P(none of the n missiles hitting target)

Here, P(at least one of the n missiles hitting) = 0.8

1 - P(none of the n missiles hitting) = 0.8

1 - P(none of the n missiles hitting) = 1 - 0.7n = 0.8

0.7n = 0.2

Take log on both side

n log 0.7 = log 0.2

n = (log 0.2)/(log 0.7)

n = 4.51

= 5

5 missiles must eb fired so that probability of hitting the target is 80%

Shooters A, B, and C are having a truel. The probability that A hits his target is 1/3, the probability for B is 2/3, and the probability for C is 1. A goes first, then B, then C, etc. until only one shooter is left. Suppose that A shoots into the air for his first shot, then B shoots at C, and C, if still alive, shoots at B. What is the expected number of shots fired until the truel...

The probability of a man hitting the target at a shooting range is 1/4. If he shoots 30 times, what is the probability that he hits the target at least 10 times?  (Copy your R code and the result). ---------------- Overview: ---------------- This lab will consist of several independent exercises that must all use recursion to solve various problems. Some problems will have fairly short solutions, but declaring and using classes/objects is still required. Some could benefit from having some kind of data structure being passed between calls. Feel free to use your LinkedList if you think it could help. Some solutions will be a mix of iteration and recursion, but all solution need to be recursive in some...

Suicide is the third most common cause of death for fifteen to twenty-four year olds, after accidents and homicides (Feldman 286). The rate of adolescent suicide among boys is higher than with girls, with attempts at suicide more likely to be fatal because of the use of more violent means, such as guns. However, girls attempt suicide more frequently, but attempts are less likely to be fatal because less violent means are used, such as by drug overdose (Feldman 287)....
