In what sense can a random digit dial sample be thought of as a simple random sample?

Answer #1

Random digit dialing is a method for selecting people for involvement in telephone statistical surveys by generating telephone numbers at random but it may not be a simple random sample in a geographical area with a low telephone density or among household with multiple telephone lines and thus for it to be a simple random sample, it should be used in high telephone density areas and duplicacy must be removed for household's phone numbers.

____   Simple Random Sample ____   Cluster sample ____   Systematic sample ____   Stratified sample 1.   While this type of sampling is very eacy to carry out, and hence saves time and money, it can very easily yield samples which are non-representative of the population, unintentionally. Often, data comes "in cycles", where the beginning and the end of each cycle is "atypical". If the "kth" individual is picked at the beginning or at the end of a cycle more often than a...

A telephone survey uses a random digit dialing machine to call subjects. The random digit dialing machine is expected to reach a live person 15% of the time. True or False: Each call is an independent random event. In two attempts, what is the probability of achieving…… exactly two successful calls? (success = reach a live person) one success and one failure (in any order)?

1- The accuracy of a potato chip bag filling machine was studied. A simple random sample of 12 bags had a sample mean fill weight of 8.12 oz. and a sample standard deviation of 0.1 oz. The distribution of the fill weights is assume NORMAL. Find a 99% confidence interval LOWER LIMIT for the population mean fill weight.
