If we have a 95% confidence interval of 70% to 80%, what would the margin of error be for the estimate? I'm a bit stuck if this would be 10%, or 5% in the positive and negative direction. Or would those mean the same thing?

Answer #1

the 95% confidence interval is :- (70 %,80 %)

upper bound = 80 %

lower bound = 70 %

the margin of error for the estimate is :-

%

you need to keep in mind that margin of error is just a value , it has no direction.margin of erro of 10% and 5 % are not same.

[ i am showing you further steps just for your clarification:-

the point estimate is :-

the confidence interval be:-

= point estimate margin of error

= 75 5

= (70-5 , 70+5 )

= (70 % , 80%)

this is how you will get again the confidence interval using your calculated values.]

**hope i have helped you to clear your doubts..
