the table below shows the results for the sum when two die are rolled whar is the probability of rolling two die and getting a sum of 3

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Probability of rolling two die and getting a sum of 3.

Let (a,b) be denote the event that a comes in 1st die and b comes in 2nd die.

Now the sum will be 3 if and only if the events are (1,2) and (2,1). Thus the probability of getting event (1,2) or (2,1) is 2/36. This is because when two dice are rolled total 36 outcomes are possible. As the dice are fair dice and hence all the 36 outcomes are equally likely. So,

the required probability is 2/36 = 1/18 = 0.056(approximately).

Hope the solution helps. Thank you.
