produced the following sample data points:

6.2, 5.8, 7.1, 6.3, 6.9, 5.7

A) Calculate sample mean and sample standard deviation.   

B) Find a 90% confidence interval for population mean μμ.

Mean (Average): 6.33

Sample Standard Deviation,

s= 0.568

b.

The formula for estimation is:

μ = M ± t(sM)

where:

M = sample mean
t = t statistic determined by confidence level
sM = standard error = √(s2/n)

Calculation

M = 6.33
t = 2.02
sM = √(0.682/6) = 0.28

μ = M ± t(sM)
μ = 6.33 ± 2.02*0.28
μ = 6.33 ± 0.5594

90% CI [5.7706, 6.8894].
