A quantitative variable is one that can be represented in numbers, something that can be measured. e.g height , weight, etc

A qualitative variable is one that can not be numeric. it represent quality or characteristic of variable e.g. gender, sex, color of ball etc.

(a). number of cars attended in a service station.         Quantitative

(b). gender                Qualitative

(c) colors of baseball caps in a store         Qualitative

(d) grade in a course (A, A-, B+,B-,...etc)     Qualitative
