To examine the effect of caffeine and age on physical endurance, a researcher randomly selects a sample of n = 60 NSC students. He divides the sample based on age (18 – 30, 31 – 50, and 50 +). Half of the 18 – 30 group, half of the 31 – 50 group, and half of the 50 + group consumes a heavily caffeinated drink and the rest of the participants consume a non-caffeinated drink. Ten minutes after consuming the drink, all participants run on a treadmill set to 8 mph and the researcher records how long participants are able to run. Which type of statistical analysis should be used to analyze the data resulting from this study?

Group of answer choices only a two factor ANOVA both a t-test for independent samples or a single factor ANOVA only a t-test for independent samples only a single factor ANOVA

Answer #1

The statistical analysis that should be used to analyze the data resulting from the given study is two factor ANOVA because there are two factors defined as caffeine with two levels as caffeinated drink and non-caffeinated drink and the second factor is age with three levels as 18-30, 31-50, and 50+ and there is one dependent variable that is time invested in running on treadmill 10 minutes after consuming the drinks.
