31. Don’t perform a test: A few weeks before election day, a TV station broadcast a debate between the two leading candidates for governor. Viewers were invited to send a tweet to indicate which candidate they plan to vote for. A total of 3125 people tweeted, and 1800 of them said that they planned to vote for candidate A. Explain why these data should not be used to test the claim that more than half of the voters plan to vote for candidate A.
Can someone explain this for me?
Given:
There is a debate between two leading candidates for governor. TV station broadcast taking a survey in which people will send a tweet to indicate which candidate they plan to vote for. A total of 3125 people tweeted, and 1800 of them said that they planned to vote for candidate A.
There is possibility that, at that time when debating is started on TV channels, the viewers might be those people who are in favor of candidate A. So they vote for candidate A. Also there is another possibility that the TV channels may not display the correct count of voters which mislead the result. Hence, the biased data cannot be used for Testing the claim that more than half of the voters plan to vote for candidate A.
