ANSWER::
As we can see from the examples given about employees A and B,
when an employee' s quartile is changed, there is a corresponding
change in their Salary Increase Percentage which is in proportion
to the difference between max and min increase of that particular
quartile.
So, here, Emp. C has an increase of 4.90 in Q1.
(Increase - Min of Q1)/(Max of Q1 - Increase) = (New Increase - Min
of Q4)/(Max of Q4 - New Increase)
To check whether the above formula is right, we put in the the
value of the mid-point of Q1.
(4.73 - 4.15)/(5.30 - 4.73) = (N - 3.25)/(4.35 - N)
=> 0.58/0.57 = (N - 3.25)/(4.35 - N)
=> N = 3.80
So, we see that the equation formed above is correct. Using the
value of 4.90 as increase percentage, we find the New Increase
-
(4.90 - 4.15)/(5.30 - 4.90) = (N - 3.25)/(4.35 - N)
=> 0.75/0.4 = (N - 3.25)/(4.35 - N)
=> (4.35 - N) * 0.75 = 0.4 * (N - 3.25)
=> 4.35 * 0.75 + 3.25 * 0.4 = N (0.4 + 0.75)
=> 4.5625 = N * 1.15
=> N = 3.967
So, the new increase in Q4 is 3.967%
