using the deviation-score method, compute S (the sample standard deviation) for the set of scores: 106, 108, 110, 112.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

We are given the set of scores: 106, 108, 110, 112.

We have to use the deviation-score method to compute S (the sample standard deviation).

Steps:

1) Find total of all scores

2) Find mean of by using total and number of scores.

3) Subtract mean value from each score ( that is called as Deviations of scores from their Mean value)

4) Find square of all deviations and find the total.

5) Divide this total by (n-1) , the answer obtained is called as Sample Variance.

6) Find Square root of answer obtained in step 5) ,

which gives answer for Sample Standard Deviation S.

Formula:

Thus we need to make following table:

x
106 106-109=-3 9
108 108-109=-1 1
110 110-109=1 1
112 112-109=3 9

where

Thus Sample Standard Deviation:
