Two cards are dealt from a standard deck of 52 cards. Find the probability of getting:
(a) A face card, followed by the ace of spades?
(b) At least one red card?
Given,
Two Cards are dealt.
a) The probability of getting a face card, followed by the ace of spades= Probability of getting a face card from 52 cards* probability of getting the ace of spades
Now, Probability of getting a face card=12/52 ( I have not considered ace as a face card)
The probability of getting the ace of spades in subsequent deal= 1/51
So, The required probability is
b) The probability of getting at least one red card= 1- Probability of getting no red card
The probability of getting no red card means both cards are black cards.
The probability that both cards are black= Prob. that the 1st card is black* Prob. that second card is black= 26/52*25/51=0.245098039
Hence the probability that there is at least one red card is 1-0.245098039=0.754901. (Ans)
