4. It is known that corn plants always respire exactly 41% of the carbon dioxide taken in back as oxygen. The correlation coefficient between the amount of carbon dioxide taken in and amount of oxygen respired for a sample of 54 plants would be:

A. 0.41

B. -0.41

C. 0.64

D. 1.00

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The correct answer is (D) 1

Explanations: Since the amount of carbon dioxide inside the plant will be equal to equal to the amount of oxygen outside the plant during respiration. So, there is a perfect correlation between them.

Note that there is given that exactly 41% of the CO2 taken in back as oxygen which is just a number there is no role in finding correlation and the number of plants 54 also doesn't affect the correlation. If you take any number of plant, the correlation between the amount of CO2 and O2 will be 1.

Rainwater is naturally slightly acidic due to the dissolved carbon dioxide. Acid rain results when acidic sulfur and nitrogen oxides produced during the combustion of coal and oil react with rainwater (see Box 12.1). (a) The partial pressure of CO2 in air saturated with water vapor at 25 C and 1.00 atm is 3.04 104 atm. Henry’s constant for CO2 in water is 2.3 102 molL1atm1; and, for carbonic acid, pKa1 6.37. 9. A lot of corn grows in Iowa. For several years, farmers have kept track of the amount of rainfall (in inches) and the amount of corn produced (in bushels per acre). A strong and linear relationship has been observed between these variables. When a regression equation is constructed in order to predict amount of corn produced based on rainfall, it is found that the equation has an intercept of 89.54 and a slope of 0.13. We can conclude from...

Background Almost all animal and plant cells require oxygen and give off carbon dioxide. This is called gas exchange and it occurs by passive diffusion. Some animals do all or most of their gas exchange across their skin (for example amphibians) but they have very low metabolisms and use very little oxygen and get rid of very little carbon dioxide. On the other hand humans (and other mammals) have very high metabolic requirements and we can’t rely on gas exchange...
