Week 10 Discussion

Find a reference to a poll or study in recent news (last few weeks ideally, earlier if you must.) Did the author include the margin of error? Is this information important? Why or why not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

One such reference is in news regarding new Ohio poll with Donald Trump having slight lead over Joe Biden, published on various websites. These news contain the margin of error. Margin of error is needed because a poll is conducted ona sample of data and not on the whole population. The sample statsitic would always differ from the population parameter. If a candidate is leading in polls with a percentage which is close to the margin of error, then that lead is not very relaible.

Last week, Shantal made a broccoli and cheddar cheese quiche for a potluck lunch with four of her coworkers. She prepared the quiche the night before the luncheon. When she opened the egg carton that she purchased 6 weeks earlier, she noticed that almost all of the eggs had small cracks in their shells. The egg carton had been stored in the refrigerator, under the heavy milk jug. Shantal did not have time to shop for fresh eggs, so she...
