The manager of a service station is in the process of analyzing the number of times car owners change the oil in their cars. She believes that the average motorist changes his or her car's oil less frequently than recommended by the owners' car manuals. She asked a sample of her customers how many times they had their car's oil changed in the last 12 months. The results were (also in attachment): 0, 1, 1, 3, 3, 1, 0, 3, 1, 1, 2, 0, 3, 1, 2. Based on the manager's sample data, and assuming that the frequencies with which all car owners change the oil in their cars per year is normally distributed, what is the estimate of the frequency with which all car owners change the oil in their cars per year, with a confidence level of 99 percent?

The next four questions are based on the following information. At a car wash station, on average, there are 4 cars coming in for the service every 10 minutes. The average wash time is 2 minutes. The Poisson distribution is appropriate for the arrival rate and service times are exponentially distributed. Please convert all rates into cars per hour and answer the following questions. 1. The average time a car spent in the waiting line is ___________ hours, and the...

1. It is necessary for an automobile producer to estimate the number of miles per gallon (mpg) achieved by its cars. Suppose that the sample mean for a random sample of 50 50 cars is 28.9 28.9 mpg and assume the standard deviation is 3.8 3.8 mpg. Now suppose the car producer wants to test the hypothesis that ? μ , the mean number of miles per gallon, is 28.7 28.7 against the alternative hypothesis that it is not 28.7...

“Fana Lube” is a regional chain that provides a standard service for performing oil changes and basic checkups on automobiles. The chain has a standard that says the average time per car for this service should be 15 minutes. There is considerable variability in times due to differences in layout of engines, degree of time pressure from other jobs, and many other sources. As a result, the management of the chain decided to study if the standard is being met...

Based on your recommendations, Mr. Miller improved shop operations and successfully reduced the number of customer complaints. To maintain good service, Mr. Miller asked you to keep monitoring the wait times of oil change customers at the shop. First, you decide to create an x-bar chart to monitor the central tendency (i.e., mean). But you know that we sometimes overlook a problem if we use only an x-bar chart. Therefore, you decide to create an R-chart to monitor the process...
