If a regression analysis was to be completed on body mass index (BMI), what could be an independent variable in that analysis? Why? If we could, what other independent variables should be included in the analysis? What statistic(s) would show the value of that regression in understanding BMI?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Body mass index to be calculated via weight and height of the person.

So, if y= BMI

x1= weight of the person

x2= height of that same person

Then our regression equation would be:

y= b0+b1x1+b2x2+e

Now, here our independent variables are x1 and x2.

And, our dependent variable is y.

We will use t-statistic if we are calculating to understand the BMI in terms of variables.(more preferable)

We would use f-statistic if we are calculating to understand the BMI in terms of modelling. (less preferable)

Write a modular program that calculates and displays a person’s body mass index (BMI). The BMI is often used to determine whether a person is overweight or underweight for his or her height. A person’s BMI is calculated with the following formula BMI = weight * 703/height2 Where weight is measured in pounds and height is measured in inches. The program should ask the user to enter his or her weight and height and then display the user’s BMI. The...
