2. For each of the following scenarios, find the critical value for F. (2 points each)
a. Three conditions with n = 9, α = .01, independent-measures ANOVA
b. Four conditions with n = 7, α = .05, independent-measures ANOVA
For each of the following scenarios, find the value of q.
c. Five conditions with n = 4, α = .01, independent-measures ANOVA
d. Three conditions with n = 8, α = .05, independent-measures ANOVA
The F-critical values are denoted in the graph below:
These values can be looked up from the F-probability tables.
(a) There are three conditions so k=3 and n=9. Also, α = .01
So the degree of freedom are (k-1,n-k), i.e (2,6). Thus the F critical value is 99.33.
(b) There are four conditions so k=4 and n=7. Also, α = .05
So the degree of freedom are (k-1,n-k), i.e (3,4). Thus the F critical value is 9.277.
The q value is the predecided level of significance. This shows the level of false postives that we are willing to accept. This is simple the α value.
(c) Thus, q = α = 0.01
(d) Similarly, q = α = 0.05
