The government is attempt ing to determine whether immigrants should be tested for a contagious disease. Let’s assume that the decision will be made on a financial basis. Assume that each immigrant who is allowed into the country and has a disease cost the government $100,000, and each immigrant who enters and does not have the disease will contribute $10,000 to the national economy. Assume that 15% of all potential immigrants have the disease. The government may admit all immigrants, admit no immigrants, or test immigrants for the disease before determining whether they should be admitted. It cost $100 to test a person for the disease; The result is either positive or negative. If the test result positive, the person definitely has the disease. However, 25% of all people who do have the disease test as negative in the test . A person who does not have the disease always test negative. The government goal is to maximize expected benefit minus expected cost. a) Use a decision tree to determine the best strategy b) Write probability tree to obtain conditional probabilities ?(?|?) = ?(?|?) ∗ ?(?) ?(?) = ?(?) ∩ ?(?) ?(?)

A medical test is available to determine whether a patient has a certain disease. To determine the accuracy of the test, a total of 10,100 people are tested. Only 100 of these people have the disease, while the other 10,000 are disease free. Of the disease-free people, 9800 get a negative result, and 200 get a positive result. The 100 people with the disease all get positive results. Use this information as you answer the questions below. 1) Find the...

To determine whether or not they have a certain disease, 160 people are to have their blood tested. However, rather than testing each individual separately, it has been decided first to group the people in groups of 10. The blood samples of the 10 people in each group will be pooled and analyzed together. If the test is negative. one test will suffice for the 10 people (we are assuming that the pooled test will be positive if and only...

It is known that, on average, one hundred people (1 in 100) have a particular disease. A diagnostic test is devised to screen for this disease. A positive result is one that suggests that the person has the disease, and a negative result is one that suggests that the person does not have the disease. The possibility of errors in the test gives the following result probabilities: For a person who has the disease, the probability of a positive result...

test for a certain disease is found to be 95% accurate, meaning that it will correctly diagnose the disease in 95 out of 100 people who have the ailment. The test is also 95% accurate for a negative result, meaning that it will correctly exclude the disease in 95 out of 100 people who do not have the ailment. For a certain segment of the population, the incidence of the disease is 4%. (1) If a person tests positive, find...

One of your tree planting buddies has suggested that every person in Canada should be tested for COVID-19 so we get a true, accurate, picture of who has the disease. I don't know the actual numbers but (in order to be as generous as possible) let's assume that the test is extremely accurate so that if you have COVID-19 it will show a positive result 99% of the time and if you don't have COVID-19 it will be positive only...
