A class of 120 students take an online class in statistics. 30 students in this class are living in dorms, 36 are renting an apartment and 54 are renting a house. Everyone lives in a different place. One day an instructor of that class decided to take a sample of 54 student.
Describe how the instructor could create stratified, clustered and convenience SRSs, based on places where students are living. (For instance you can give it as a list of instructions one could follow to create such a sample, given the beforementioned data of 120 students.)
Answer:
From the given information,
To draw stratified sample:-
Strata mean group of student.
So, 3 stratas(dorns, apartment, house) are here and we have to draw 54 student. So, 18 student we have to select randomly from each strata.
To select 18 students randomly we can use lottery method as below:
For strata 1, There are 30 students in strata 1. So create 30 lotteries with name of each student on each separate lottery. After mixing it properly, select 18 lotteries randomly.
Similarly make 36 and 54 lotteries for strata 2 and strata 3 respectively and draw randomly 18 lotteries from each.
So finally add this 3 random samples of size 18 each to get required stratified sample of size 54.
